ABSTRACT The integration of research emphasizing sustainable development, employment, income generation and food security has been highlighted in the media. The objective of this research was to evaluate the agro-economic responsiveness of radish associations with cowpea in the presence of different amounts of roostertree, spatial arrangements and agricultural crops. The experimental design was a randomized block design with four replications, with treatments arranged in a 4 x 3 factorial scheme, where the first factor consisted of four amounts of C. procera incorporated in the soil (20, 35, 50 and 65 t ha-1 on a dry basis) and the second factor of three spatial arrangements (2:2, 3:3, and 4:4) in two cropping seasons. Radish samples were evaluated for...

Agronomic and economic feasibility indicators for cowpea-vegetable under green manure in a semiarid environment Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Silva,Josimar Nogueora da; Bezerra Neto,Francisco; Lima,Jailma Suerda Silva de; Barros Júnior,Aurélio Paes; Nunes,Renato Leandro Costa; Chaves,Aridênia Peixoto.
ABSTRACT Two experiments were conducted in different areas of the Rafael Fernandes Experimental Farm, located in Lagoinha district, 20 km from Mossoró municipality (RN), in the period from June to September of the years of 2015 and 2016 with the objective of evaluating and estimating agronomic and economic feasibility indicators of cowpea-vegetable as a function of amounts of hairy woodrose (Merremia aegyptia (L.) Urb.) biomass incorporated into the soil in two crops. Treatments consisted of the following amounts of hairy woodrose biomass: 20, 35, 50 and 65 t ha-1 on a dry basis. The cultivar of cowpea-vegetable planted was “BRS Itaim”. The evaluated characteristics were: length of green pods, number of green pods per m2, productivity and dry mass of green...

Production and benefits in carrot and vegetable cowpea associations under green manuring and spatial arrangements Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Silva,Josimar Nogueora da; Bezerra Neto,Francisco; Lima,Jailma Suerda Silva de; Santos,Elizangela Cabral dos; Nunes,Renato Leandro Costa; Chaves,Aridênia Peixoto.
ABSTRACT The use of a cropping system that provides producers with better land use, higher productivity per unit area, greater diversification in production, and, consequently, agro-economic advantages, is the choice of many vegetable producers. To meet the demands of these producers, experiments were conducted under field conditions in a semi-arid environment to evaluate the production and agro-economic benefits of carrot x vegetable cowpea associations as a function of green manuring with biomass of Merremia aegyptia L., a spontaneous species from the Caatinga biome, in different spatial arrangements at two cropping years. The experimental design was a randomized complete block design with treatments arranged in a 4 x 3 factorial scheme, with four...

Productive and economic efficiency of carrot intercropped with cowpea-vegetable resulting from green manure and different spatial arrangements Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Favacho,Fernando Sarmento; Lima,Jailma Suerda Silva de; Bezerra Neto,Francisco; Silva,Josimar Nogueora da; Barros Júnior,Aurélio Paes.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the agro-economic efficiency of intercropping carrot with cowpea-vegetable in relation to the amounts of biomass of Calotropis procera (Ait.) R.Br. (known locally as flor-de-seda) incorporated into the soil, and to different spatial arrangements. The study was carried out under field conditions from August to November of 2014, at the Experimental Farm 'Rafael Fernandes' of the Rural Federal University of the Semi-Arid (RFUSA), in Mossoró, in the State of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The experimental design was a randomised complete blocks in a 4 x 3 factorial, consisting of a combination of four different amounts of flor-de-seda biomass incorporated into the soil (20, 35, 50 and 65 t ha-1 of dry matter) and...
